my 1987 Dodge ram was running like crap, took the air cleaner off and found the carb was loose. The three screws underneath had backed out. Is this common?

What kind of shape were the washers under the nuts for the carb in? Were there washers under the nuts? If so, what kind (lock, wavy, flat)...This just sounds odd...I have an italian motorcycle that periodically rattles itself apart, but most of those issues were cured with loctite.

I had the same problem. A little bit longer bolts and fresh lockwashers took care of it.

Which "three" screws? The (1-barrel) carburetor is held to the manifold with two nuts, one on each of two studs.

hey Dan, I am talking about the three phillip head screws, 2 in front, 1 in the back. These mount the top half of the carb to the bottom

Ah! Okay, gotchya. Yep, those can loosen up with time and vibration.
