My 7 1/4 died today. I have a 8 1/4 rear,drive shaft,shock mounts,and large bolt pattern rims from a 76 Dart. Will this be a direct bolt-in? Thanks for any replies.

See my slantsix.com post. Also, you will need U-bolts for the 3" diameter tubes on the 8.25" axle.

I also checked .com site. I just returned from my local spring shop to get fresh nuts and washers for my new u-bolts. I ordered some factory replacements from a Dodge Dealer for a 2-wheel drive 87 Dakota.
Thanks again.

hard to say if you'll need to shorten your d/s, or get one made up.

If you got the rear out of a 76 Dart you'll need the driveshaft from that car, if you got it from a Dart sport, you'll need a new driveshaft to fit your Dart.

The Dart in question was a standard Dart body and not the Sport model. If I'm correct the Sport models share the same 108" wheelbase as Valiants, Demons, Dusters, and early Cudas. The Darts have a 111" wheelbase, but I'm not sure what other A-bodies share that wheelbase.

If your rear came out of a standard Dart then you need that driveline since your car is a 'dart' , 8 1/4" A-body rear cars are getting hard to find in junkyards (only produced for 3 years...), so platform sharing among other models is going to be on a trial and error basis. I do think the 'Scamp' model of the Valiant was based on the 111" WB but it'd have to have an 8 1/4" rear for the driveline to work in your car...

good luck,

Well its all done. The rear and drive shaft that was donated by the 76 Dart went in perfectly. The 76 Dart was a slant/904 set-up for those wondering. The 87 Dak u-bolts were the perfect length.
