I was reading Cudaspaz's warning to members about his ordeal, which made me think I should do the same and warn people about a company called MITCHELL MOTOR PARTS in Fairmount, Georgia.

It's now been 13 months since this drama started, I only got half of the order I asked for and ripped off for the other half.

In the initial approach to these people I was virtually told they couldn't spare the time to even look for the parts until I sent over the money to show I wasn't wasting their time.

Since then I found out from other club members over here (Australia), that they have stacks of parts - charge extremely high and have only 4 people trying to sell parts over the counter and trying to pack parts for shipping, not to mention they go to swap meets as well. They're simply run off their feet. I feel it's the people like me (overseas people) that suffer. I wonder how many others they've let down?

Anyway, to go a little further, I did speak to a guy by the name of MIKE C.(THE BOSS)who told me over the phone he would give me a credit for the balance through PayPal straight away. But that didn't happen. It seems when they've had enough they just simply LIE and DON"T ANSWER E-MAILS in the hope you'll just go away, as I ended up doing.

Mitchell has a very long history of behaving very badly. This what you describe is only one of the ways he does it. He also has longtime satisfied customers, but to me, a "maybe you'll get what you ordered, maybe it'll be as described, maybe you'll be charged the quoted price" gamble isn't good enough. With vendors like Mitchell and Layson, you might get good service and a fair deal on a correct part, but you equally might get badly screwed. The argument is sometimes made "But he's the only one who has the part!". This is almost never actually the case; if you look hard enough and have enough patience you'll usually eventually find what you need, though it can be difficult to find some items elsewhere. This is in large part due to Mitchell's astoundingly predatory buying behaviour — grabbing parts off the table in front of a swap meet buyer who is in the middle of getting the money out of his wallet to pay the agreed price, throwing money at the seller, and walking off with the parts, that kind of thing. (No, I'm not making it up.) And then there was that mysterious fire that burned down one of Mitchell's large warehouses full of insured NOS parts...which just happened to happen right when Mitchell was in hot water with the IRS for back taxes owed.

He's tried to sell his whole business on eBay for multiple millions of dollars a few times, and had no takers.

You may want to put up a "Parts Wanted" ad and see if you can get pointed in another direction for what you're after.

If you did this transaction through paypal, contact them and tell them of the situation . My wife had a couple of bad deals through paypal and both times paypal got her money back.

Good Luck
Dave

SlantSixDan Thanks for your reply about my warning of Mitchell Motors. Apart from the fact that they do have the parts, and even though their prices are astounding, it seems to me, now their intention is plain and that is to get as much as possible by whatever means possible. How do they get away with this? Can I and others complain to a Gov. Body in the U.S. in the hope they will be caught up with in the future?

OOspy Yes we did use PayPal but unfortunately we exceeded our 90day limit to complain, and this was because it took close to 90days to receive half of the order, so by the time e-mails went back and forth I'd exceeded the 90days and PayPal dropped me like a rock. Did your wife complain within the 90days? Thanks for the thought Dave

Yes I think it was before 90 days , but the squeaky wheel gets greased.
I would bring up that you were being strung along for awhile. I would get in touch with paypal again , and worry them for awhile. Im not sure how much you lost , but its worth a try to email them again
Good Luck
Dave

I have bought exactly 1 item from Mitchell; a gas tank float that hooks to the wire "arm" on the sender, via Ebay; he did me OK on that, but I guess I was lucky; SSDan and Zilla are but a small % of people that have told me horror stories about that place; so even though he did me OK on a $12 part, I won't be going back.

That part can be bought from your local Ford dealer, for 1/2 that price.
