Hi all,

My engine (225) is currently out for a re-build. I've had both manifolds media blasted to clean them up. Now I'm planning to paint the intake the same color as the engine, and put some hi-temp paint (likely Eastwood's) on the exhaust manifold. I understand that both manifolds are designed to "slide" or move under their mounting points, as they expand and contract from the temperature changes. My question is: will the paint hinder their ability to slide? Do I need to be careful of putting the paint on too thick, etc? Or am I worrying over nothing? Thanks for any pointers.

I don't paint the manifold to head faces nor the area where the two manifolds bolt together. I don't think it would be detrimental to do so, but I prefer to mask off the port openings and heat riser area

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I wasn't planning to paint the surfaces that mate against the head. I was more concerned with the areas that lie beneath the triangular washers that hold the manifolds against the head. Seems like paint on those areas might interfere with the movement. Although it probably couldn't be any worse than the rust that was there when I took everything apart, hmm? Maybe I'll mask those areas off, just to be safe. Thanks!

Yep, the paint advice you got is good.

It is very much worth your while to get the good gaskets for the manifolds-to-head and intake-to-exhaust junctions, so they'll seal well and you won't have to pull them and do it again.

Oh, I've never worried about masking off those areas. I prefer to not have rust or corrosion there if possible. Your best bet at allowing the manifolds to expand and contract is to not overtorque the mounting nuts.
