I am going to replace the slant in my 66 Dart gt with a 318.
Can you guys help me with a list of parts I will need?

I know I need:

A dropdown centerlink.
A throttle cable?
Headers?

The car will be totally rebuilt for strip duty eventually so I am just looking for a list of the things I will need just for the v8 swap.

Thanks.

Engine mounts, early A-body only exhaust manifolds or TTi headers if you want to keep the inner fenders intact. Bigger radiator, different trans or bellhousing, engine wiring harness, and on and on.

I've done this a few times and it's always a lot of work to do it right. I think a better place to start is with a performance goal and see what it takes to meet that. If you want a serious strip only car it's cheaper and easier to use a '67 and later car.

Eh, we can always hope that he comes back to the light, and sees the error of his ways... hehe.

The other suggestion I have is to get another A-body with a Slanty and at least HAVE one.

stick with the slant i almost made that mistake when gas was 2.50 a gallon? with a hi compression 340 but the slant was the way to go because it was not a v8 thats all you see at car shows. with it being a stright six and leaning on an angle its awsome. one more thing 225s are super reliable. and if its power you want get you an offy intake and clifford headers.

LOL you guys are great.

This is my wife's dream car and she wants to eventually get it deep into the 11's. It will be mini tubbed and caged eventually with all the right go fast parts. I am just looking for a list of parts I will need to get started and will use the 318 as a temp engine during the build, while I put another year of wear and tear on the 340 while it's still in my Duster.
I know other people have done this with a slant, but that is not the way we want to go.

I will be keeping the 41,000 mile original engine, sorry walpolla. Lol.

I have to agree with emsvitil. When are we going to say enoughs enough? There has to be a line between good (slant6) and evil (v8 ) and no grey area! What has this world come to? To allow something so horrid in dismembering? Does anyone have a conscious anymore??? STOP THE INSANITY!!!

You must have expected a bit of abuse coming here with that request but I like my V8s too. (they're just not as cool as slants) That being said, Joshie has given you the key suggestions but if you want to be in the 11's then you of course need to upgrade your drive shaft (you'll need a shorter one if you run a 727) with beefy U-joints. A-body or narrowed 8 3/4 with BBP so you can actually find wheels to run. After market axles are a good idea. Now since you've upgraded the bolt pattern in the rear, you should also put disc brakes in the front witch happen to come with BBP. Going fast is one thing but being able to stop is essential, especially if you're putting someone else behind the wheel. That should about cover it until you gut the interior, install after market guages, connect the sub frames, install a drive shaft loop, line lock, fuel cell, slicks and a spool. It's practically built already. You might be better off to jack up the rad cap and drive a new car underneath. Too bad building cars is fun. Good luck with your new endeavor.

Or, you can just build a 14 second Slant and spray it into the 11's. :D

Deep into the 11's w/a 318 ain't no cakewalk either Bucky.

that 727 isn`t going to help, a fellow racer of mine had a 360 duster and couldn`t touch 11`s untill he swaped to a 904.
