Hey guys,
I'm just wondering what options I have as far as manual transmissions are concerned. I have a 66 Dart with a 225 slant six, and a three on the treee trans. I want to upgrade to a 5-speed overdrive trans. Maybe a tremec or something?? What are my options??

Your options depend on how much you can/want to fabricate. A few of us have swapped in T5s from Mustangs or Camaros, and they work well with the Dart chassis and bellhousing. I am of the opinion that you can swap anything into anything given time and money... The Tremec 3550 might be a good swap for a higher power application (>330 ft/lbs or about 325 HP), but the T5 will be fine up til then.

Do a search on this site (and ss.com) for terms like "T5" or "5 spd" or "5 speed" and you will get several things to read. After reading that stuff, please post more specific questions.

Cheers,

Lou

Well then, as far as the T5 out of a camaro or mustang. What year mustang and camaro? Also, does it bolt right up to the bellhousing? What clutch do I need?? What problems will I run into?? What did you decide on as far as manual clutch vs. hydraulic?? These are hopefully specific enough!! Thanks-Josh

OK Josh, I will do the work for you this time. It is always a good idea to search back posts for answers before posting a question. This cuts down on people answering the same questions many times over - Thanks.

Here are the relevant links from the slantsix.com site. Please read them, then don't hesitate to ask questions. I think all of the questions you ask about are in these posts, but I can clarify too.

Sorry for being an internet idiot. But thanks for your time. I really appreciate your experience. By the way, since I see you have already completed this modification(t-5). Couldnt you give me a list of all the parts I need, right down to the part #. And as far as the machining of the bellhousing, what needs to be done??

Thanks Josh.
By the way, if for some reason I'am asking a question that is answered in a post somewhere, sorry. I would just rather get first hand info. for my particular question.
