The s6 in my dart won't start hot, at all. So my wife says. starts cold just fine. once it's been run, it won't restart for 30 min, or more. I'm guessing it's a fuel related problem. how do i fix it? any suggestions? thanks

i've seen high float level cause this. floats can sometimes bend their arm a tad over time and cause a high fuel level condition in the bowls. this willl sometimes flood the car when hot as the fuel will dump into the intake. i think i'd also look and make sure you're getting spark at this point, too. cometimes coils (and other electrical parts as well) flatline after getting good and hot, especially when they are driven for a while and allowed to sit with no air circulating in the engine compartment.

A spec of dirt in the needle seat will allow raw fuel to flood the engine after shut-off, making it real hard to restart.

One test is to shut the hot engine off then see if it restarts a few moments afterwards. Another thing to do is to stop the engine then take-off the air cleaner and look down the carb. there should be no fuel flowing / dripping into the venturi when the engine is off.

Try removing and cleaning the needle valve to see if that helps.
A fuel pressure return / bleed-off also helps with hot restarts.

well the dart wouldn't start for me the other day. drove home, let it sit 10 min and it wouldn't start. tried putting my foot to the floor for a min, didn't work. popped the hood, took off the lid on the air cleaner and she fired up. anyone know where to get an open element air cleaner for a single barrel? I'm thinking that the air cleaner might be part of the problem too.l

Sounds like vapor lock or the fuel is percolating in the carb. when it gets hot. Do what I did (and suggested by a member of this board). Use high pressure fuel injection hose and run it from your fuel pump (using a 90* fitting) up and over your valve cover. Plug it into your carb. (using a strait fitting). This way you eleminate the hard fuel line running over the water pump and exhaust manifold, an excellent source of heat to cause vaper lock and fuel expansion. Put the filter behind the alternator to keep it away from heat. I also zip tied the fuel line to the heater hose bracket, so it never touches anything hot. I did this a couple of years ago and have never had a problem with hard starting with the engine hot, wether I run errands all day or drive the heck out of it on the freeway.
