Still worrying about the 63 trans-73 engine swap... Since I bought it this way, can I check to see if the torque converter is centered using a dial indicator?
I had aortic valve replacement surgery last year at a pretty early age (46) and I can't just yank engines out the way I used to, so I'd like to avoid pulling the engine to see if the spacer ring was installed.
I will be replacing the trans inline filter with an in-pan 2 port filter as outlined in one of Dan's posts.
Would like to know best economy tuning specs and spark plug preferences for the 1973 225 (early intake, no EGR)in the car. The engine was supposedly rebuilt to stock specs, and runs very well except for some carburetion issues. I just want to tweak what I've got, I'm not going to build the engine. I will be adjusting the valves first thing (people never seem to do this on slant sixes!) Based on these parameters, I would be grateful for any knowledge of what has worked for you guys. Thanks in advance.
Kelly

unless you put it there, the odds are very long that anyone installed a spacer ring. they were never offered from the manufacturer and only a few people are fabricating them and offering them for sale. few know theyre even needed.

Yup, Step's right. You almost certainly do not have the necessary ring in there. And you'd need it regardless of the measurement you might get with a dial gauge.

Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread.

OK, one more spacer ring question... now quit banging your head on the keyboard. This will only hurt for a minute. This is basically the same thing as a pilot bushing on a manual transmission, yes?

Conceptually, yes. But you must get the actual correct adaptor ring for this application. A pilot bushing won't work.
