My Omni project is quite a ways off as there is a ton of fabrication needed to make that car a reality. In the mid term I'm putting a +.040" 198 in a 1987 RX-7 and calling it the RX-203. I'm hoping for low 14s normally aspirated and high 12s bottle fed.

The chassis has a full roll cage and a stripped interior with a Momo race seat and little else. The car has the larger turbo differential with 4.10 gears and a good clutch type limited slip. Hopefully the half-shafts hold up. The trans is ready, the engine needs some oiling mods, the head needs to be ported and then I can assemble the motor. I'm waiting on the motor plate, but have most everything else. So it's put the engine together, trim the motor plate to fit the chassis, fab the trans mount, fab radiator brackets, some plumbing and wiring. Need to mount the shifter and build the driveshaft too. Should be able to make the first race if I stay focused.

I expect the car to weigh about 2500 lbs without resorting to cutting sheet metal or expensive stuff like Lexan windows.

I don't think I'm going to be on schedule for next year, but will be working on it over the winter.

I know 12's is not a hugh accomplishment Lou ,but i am talking lt. weight with no power adders. I am waiting on some deep thinkers ( dreamers )to develop a closed chamber head with long valves,turbos ,port injection etc. and see what can be done with beloved slants.

Once and a while I think about building a new car to get down to 2000# with better aero dynamics and weight distirbution than the Valiant. It can be done, Dale Rose's Arrow weighed about 1950 with him in it before he added the supercharger set up. The engine, transmission, and fluids weigh about 700# so a complete rolling chassis would have to weigh less than 1300 minus the wieght of the driver. You can do this but it probably means 4130 tubing and lots of expensive light weight parts and attention to detail. The nice thing about reducing the weight of your car is that it always works and doesn't effect durability.

In my opinion, anyone that can put a N/A slant door slammer in the 12's, has really accomplished something. There are not a lot of them out there.

Granted I am a low buck racer, but I haven't got into the 12's even with nitrous, and I am a long way from 12's N/A.

Yep. There's a whole lot more N/A Slant cars out there that won't run 12's than will.

I'm gonna guess that even with the motor out of my red car in the Daytona it will still be a 13 something second car.

Well, first, most of the imported Isettas were actually four-wheel versions for the U.S. market. The two rear drive wheels were pretty close together, but there was two of them back there. The European cars were the three-wheeled versions, of which a few did make it here in the earlier years.

My idea is for a street-legal, four-wheeled car, but I want to run the body backwards on a tube chassis, open engine out front, and a track T nose. Full tub across the (now) rear for a narrowed 8.75 on wishbones and coil-overs, straight axle up front, and a solid-panel roof hatch in place of the soft roof that they had originally. Think along the lines of the vintage Fiat and Bantam gassers of the early-mid 60's.

My biggest problem is locating one within my budget, as well as one that's not too complete or in too good of shape. I'm enough of a purist that if it's too good, it should be restored, not hacked up by somebody building a hot rod.

Yep! But if you've been to very many car shows, it's always the one-off/strange combos that seem to garner the most attention.

Can't say whether it'd break into triple digits, but there'd sure be some speculation around the pits before the first run, especially if it had wing pipes and my Hilborn setup hangin' off of it.

My Dad's best friend told me a tale once about a ride in one of Dad's Isettas. Dad managed to get it up to 65 on I5 going down hill. This was back around 1962.
He said it was the most frightening ride he ever took!

That he managed to get a 350cc single with two grown men up to that speed is pretty remarkable.

I think Dad referred to that adventure as "Hair Raising."

With luck, I'll have something in the 12's in the next 2-3 years.
