I AM IN THE PLANNING STAGE OF A SLANT 6 POWERED TRACK T PROJECT ROD. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL VEHICLES POWERED BY THE SLANT 6 (LOVED THEM) BUT NEVER INVESTIGATED THE DIFFERENT VARIATIONS .
IN MY RECIENT RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENCES TO THE ENGINE OVER THE YEARS. MY QUESTION IS -----WHICH ENGINE WOULD BE THE BEST CHOICE FOR MY PROJECT KEEPING IN MIND I HAVE NOTHING NOW AND WILL BE SEARCHING FOR A APPLICABLE DONOR VEHICLE . MY INTENT IS TO MODIFY THE CYL HEAD FOR BETTER FLOW AND COMPRESSION AND ADD SUFFICIENT CARBERATION (4 BBL) AND IGNITION( ELECTRONIC) UPGRADES ALONG WITH HEADERS.
I WANT STANDARD TRANSMISSION AND HOPE TO ADAPT TO A BORG WAGNER T-5 5 SPEED WITH OD IF POSSIBLE(OR SIMILAR). I THINK I WANT THE EARLY 225 CI "RG" ENGINE WITH THE FORGED CRANK, ALUMINUM VS CAST IRON BLOCK SHOULD NOT BE A ISSUE. ALUMINUM (80 LBS LESS) WOULD BE NICE BUT REBUILD COST I THINK WOULD BE WAY MORE EXPENSIVE.
ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS OR RECOMENDATIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED REGARDING THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION ISSUES . THANKS. MY INTENT IS TO DO THE REBUILD MYSELF EXCEPT FOR THE MACHINING.

Books , welcome! Sounds similar to the project I am planning! The aluminum engines are harder to find - but other than that I would beat the bushes and see what turns up. If you know any Mopar (V-eight) guys in your area you might luck into a slant pretty cheap. I came by two engines this way. The 198 cu. in. engine is sought after because of the rod length. The 225 BH blocks are a bit beefer and the bracket racers seem to like those. Again, most any slant could work just check availability and price for your area. Are you thinking Total Performance for your project or are you building it from scratch?

I, like you, are not of the information age, just happen to be living in it, and "CAPS' don't sound any louder to my blurry eyes than the little letters. In fact, early morning my eyes are as bad as my hearing... Kind of like getting a hearing aid to see better. But, convention is convention I guess. If you all could just use a larger font, and bold it, I could ditch the reading specks.
