Would stepping up to an electronic fuel pump have any advantages over a mechanical one? And does Royal Purple really benefit over regular oil? :?

Welcome ( Lot's of new people lately :D )

For a street car, I would stay with a mechanical pump, they are more reliable and less noisy.
I have both on my race car. The big block mechanical pump I have (with a SL6 lever) makes 6-7 psi at idle but I turn-on the electric right on the starting line just to be sure the fuel pressure stays up.

As for purple oil, never used the stuff.

Is there a way to test the mech pump? I just replaced mine and I held my finger on it while someone cranked the motor and it didn't seem to pulling very well.

To test the pump just grab a Fuel pressure guage and hook it up :)

very easy to do and will tell you how good the pump is!
