Was looking in my books today and noticed that the NISSAN L28 engine has 3.386 in bore 1.73 in intake valves an 1.38 in exhaust valves and 44.7CC combustion chambers. Has anybody ever attempted a head swap such as this or another style OHC head? Got thinking about this as I have a buggered L28 nissan engine, with headers.

C'mon, please be serious. This is like saying "Hey, I just noticed a Ferrari has four round black tires, just like my Dart! Does this mean the Ferrari motor will fit the Dart?".

i was being serious............sorry................ i am only 22, give me a break. I can only wish to know as much as our more mature members of this page one day. I appreciate every answer I have ever had replied to my questions. my last name is horn, so I guess when I made a user name it should have been greenhorn. Sorry if I offended you, by your reply it sounds as if I did, it was a serious question as I have seen different head swaps done on other engines that looked impossible but actually turned out quite good

ahhhhhh... trying to remember that thread where someone sectioned an aluminum head or a couple of them onto a slant... it had a fat orange valve cover on it with the plugs coming in from the top... looked really clean...

anyone remember that thread?

but no, nothing out there will bolt right on to the slant and it's not for lack of searching.

ya thats is what I expected, I was just thinking if it is similar in size that it might work, that is if the water passages will flow good, I realize there will be a lot of welding and machining involved, my friends dad is an awesome machinist. The hardest part would be the cam chain setup, but that aside I am just pondering the head.

There are problems getting the combustion chambers over the cylinders, Fastener locations and transfering coolant around.

A cross flow/aluminum/hemi head will require a custom foundry. Well beyond the reach of most slant addicts.

You'll have to excuse Dan, he just lost someone close to him. He will likely appologize soon.

You have a reasonable question. The trouble is the slant block is cast with bore centres in two groups of three instead of 1 group of six like everything else. Even if the bore centres are the same it wont line up.

There are stories of Supra heads bolting right up but I made them up.

A guy on this site (Heckshemi) glued up some sectioned small block V8 heads to make a cool hemi slant. Thats prolly out of your league.

I think that would be alot of work (although there is nothing wrong with that) seeing as how slants dont have overhead camshafts to begin with.

You need to toughin up that skin a little bit too :P

Seriously if you do try to tackle this I am sure there would be lots of interest/support from the people here.

lol its like telling my father an idea, and him telling me it will never work, It just makes me want to do it more. I don't have any cash to sink into this project, so all I have are crazy ideas right now...lol I think I am goin to pick up a 280 head gasket and see what it looks like on a 225 block

Yeah, sorry for snapping at you.

Keep in mind, whether your father says it or you read it on here, stuff that won't work...won't work, no matter how crazy that might drive you. Square wheels don't work, and neither do Nissan-to-Mopar head swaps. You'll have better, more productive results proceeding along the learning curve by putting your time and effort into ideas that aren't dead-enders.

There's also been some speculation that a Jaguar I6 head has the right bore spacing, though there aren't any reports of anyone actually trying to put it on a slant six yet. Any sort of OHC head swap is going to mean a fair amount of machine work to get the holes to line up and some really creative fabrication for the cam drive.
