I have been working on rewiring the Duster (73 with a 78 engine). It appears that there was an engine fire because all the wires are brittle and broken. I initially began by just putting new wires between connectors using butt connectors. I got to thinking that maybe it would be better (functionally and aesthetically) if I got a complete harness and just plugged it all in. I could not find anything on the internet and wondered if anyone knew where I could find a complete engine wiring harness. As always, thanks for the help. BTW, I have not replaced the accelerator pump but noticed that if I pour a bit of gas down the carb, it fires right up when cold. Would that still indicate the pump? I need to get this thing on the road even though I still need to get the tranny rebuilt and fix the brakes and new tires. I have too many other projects like a 59 Lincoln Continental and my 1950 Chevy pickup to finish up.

Looks like you have a couple of options. Shop the salvage yard and pick up a used OEM harness. I got my cylinder block out of a 76 Dart Lite, so they're still some out there in the yards. A more difficult, but perhaps a better option would be an aftermarket harness. There are a couple of brands offered by Summit Racing. Painless Wiring is one that immediately comes to mind.

Why don't you check out Evans Wiring Harnesses http://evanswiring.tripod.com/evanswiringharnesses/ . They list 72-74 A-body harnesses for $100.00.

This includes everything from the firewall forward except for the wiper and neutral safety/back-up light wiring. That's an addtional $25.00.

I have one in my 68 Barracuda and it was one of the best $120.00 (paid more because I made the mistake of getting it from YO) I spent restoring my car.

Thanks everyone. I think I will go for a new purchase option. Last time I was at the junk yard getting pollution parts, the few slant sixes were pretty well stripped. In fact, I had my son removing parts from one as I looked at others. In a few minutes, he came to me and said he had it all. I noticed he had forgotten the vacuum tree and we went back. In tha span of a few moments, someone else had come by and removed the manifolds.
