I am getting quite a bit of oil from my 225. It seems like it is coming from all over when I look at the pan and transmission. But when I look at the head I see no oil runs from valve cover. I see one from the seam along head and block, and there is a lot (well more than I would like) of oil along the bellhousing and transmission pan. yes it is oil, and not tranny fluid. Recommendations? Thinking of just taking it into my local shop and have them take a look, check compression, and go from there.

Timing cover seal or rear main seal? Leaking pan gasket?

Have you tried snugging down the oil pan bolts?

Time to break out the UV leak detector. See here and here.

I had snugged down pan bolts, and I replaced the valve cover gasket (had to when I adjusted the valves during last oil change). I am guessing head-block joint, and perhaps rear part of pan where it is next to bellhousing, my fear is rear main seal.

I saw oil leaking from what appeared to be the valve cover gasket, since oil was sitting on the block, where the head meets it. I replaced the gasket with no luck. But then I discovered the spark plug tubes had seals. And two were missing. Problem solved.

The oil sender switch is a common source and difficult to see. Good luck!
