Hey Lou Ijust found a 5 spd out of a 88 v-8 mustang (got the whole car for $200)the trans seems real good.I was looking at my 61 Val and noticed that the trans (3 spd manual) tilts back towards the driver side and that the shifter itsself is bolted to the floorboard and not the trans. now what i need to know is if you think that i can use that bell housing or do i need another one with the more conventional mounting(I have one out of a 71 dodge truck with a 10 inch cluthc)also I would like to stay with the mechanicaL clutch linkage, and how much trouble is it to fabricate the adapter plate for the t-5.Thanks in advance for any help.

Slanted,

You have all the factory parts you need. That is the same trans I used, dimensionally, and you got a great deal on it if it works. I used the truck bellhousing, same as the one you have. You can stay with a mech linkage too - I made some parts for this, but opted for the hydro linkage before I used them.

The adapter plate is hard for some, easy for others. Best to talk to a machinist near you first, preferably with access to a CNC mill. I will post some pics and notes soon of the adapter plate and X-members. It takes some fab work, but is a great swap.

Lou

Thanks Lou,
The engine in the rustang was barely running and the body was rough but the trans seems ok. I was able to sell the rest of the car to a local dirt tracker for what i paid for it so even if its turns out to be junk I will still be able to use it as a mockup trans. Thanks again.

That's exactly what I did - bought a $100 trans and mocked it up and put it in. Worked OK except the 2nd gear synchros were toast. Could have rebuilt it, but instead bought a new trans.

Lou
