The Mustang is a much faster car. The only chance you have is if the Mustang has a mechanical or electrical failure that keeps it from running.

No way. Expect that Mustang to run mid 15s (or faster) in the quarter. Volare=18s at best.

The mustang benefits from modern technology, efi/OD tranny...
For you to keep pace with it, you will need more cam, bigger carb, better rear end ratio....etc...
Stock for stock, right off the lot...the volare isn't ready to drag against that one unless it's a bracket race....

FYI,

There is nothing more fun than being in an old car and running down the 1/4 mile quicker than a car built in the 2000's. :D

Just thought I'd share this with guys.
Earlier this year I went to the track with a good friend of mine. Me in my 62 Valiant, him in his 2004 3.8L V6 GMH Commodore "Sports Pack" which has 204hp. Looks like this.

Anyway, for weeks before this he was telling me how quick his car was and how it was so much faster than my old Valiant.
On the night, my old Valiant 15.6sec and his new GMH..............16.7sec. I still smile when I think of the look on his face. :D

Would I get any more seat of the pants power out of a 2.93 rear end ratio compared to a 2.76? My car's downside is just from a stop get up and go, one time when the kid with the V6 mustang and I were both going about 25 mph on the way home from school and then we both punched it and we were about dead even. I'm just sort of sick of other kids making fun of my "old" car. haha, my come back is always, "I'll bet you my car will outlast yours by 20 years..." and then my friend always backs me up with, "In fact, it already has..." haha

See if you can find a 3.21/3.23 geared rear end from an F-body that originally came with the 4-speed overdrive manual transmission and your car will come off the line more quickly. The 2.93 is a step in the right direction, but probably not enough to get you the acceleration you desire.

With some money, ambition, and the collective knowledge of this forum, your revenge is closer than you think.

Now, how to outrun that GT-R, hmmmm......

3.23 is a good compromise between acceleration and highway cruising (i.e. still comfortable at 75mph)

I like wayne's turbo article.. With a junkyard turbo swap he was in the 16's on a stock six... thats pretty hairy if you think about the potential.

As the current owner of the turbo setup from that article, I don't. :)

By the time I got the setup, the manifold had almost cracked in two where the K-car flange was welded onto the stock manifold, and the turbo was way too small.
