Could you post a vin? How about a picture of the motor? Is the air cleaner original? What does it say? Most likely the motor is a 225, but it *might* be a 170.

Welcome on the board. Errr...you sure about what your friend just picked up? The Seneca name was used (as the base trim level on the Dart) in '60 and '61 only. The 225 was the only slant-6 engine available in those cars. You (or your friend) will want to pick up the appropriate manuals as quickly as possible, once you've identified exactly what the car is. If you can post some pictures of the car and the engine, we can give you more detail.

The 225s used in certain '63-'69 cars got a "225" air cleaner decal, but there are so many air cleaners that'll fit, not to mention several different engine swaps that could've been done, that looking at the air cleaner of a nearly-fifty-year-old car is not a reliable way to determine what engine you have.

Ah, that makes better sense. :-) A 1961 Dodge Dart Seneca. The engine would've been a 225 from the factory. Possibly a (relatively rare) aluminum-block 225; grab a magnet and see if it sticks to the block under the manifolds. Some info on upgrading '61s is in this thread.
