I made it to school this morning and on the way i noticed that my truck had no vacuum advance at all. I cant even make it up any hills no matter what the grade is. I have no idea what is wrong with it and now im stuck at school not knowing if i can drive it back to the house. Ive jacked with the timing alittle and nothing seems to be doing anything so now im wondering if i burnt it up or what is wrong with it. Please help ASAP!

I'd like to help but need more info:

What ignition are you running? Is it lean burn?

Have you checked for vacuum leaks, especially at the carb to manifold junction and intake to head? Other sources of leaks like power brakes....?

Is the idle erractic?

Overheating?

Hello,

Ahh, the no power up a hill problem. Caused by a number of things, so how did you determine you had no vac advance? Remember just increasing rpm by moving the throttle while you are under the hood with a timing light and seeing the mark move isn't a guarantee you have or have not any vac advance. It merely shows advance of some kind with rpm increase.

Pretty easy to fix though starting with are all your plug wires on and are you smoothly going nowhere, or are you missing and rattling going nowhere?

????????

First you need to find out what type of set up you have. A Lean Burn Computer System or points or a 70's electronic ........many trucks have been retrofitted over the years so you need to know which of the (3) systems you have in your rig.

For example: on a points or 70's electronic, when you unplug the vacuum line and blow on it, does the air go through?
Then you would have a blown vacuum advance diaphragm.

Hook your distributor hose to the OSAC line shown on the picture right next to the PCV fitting on the carb.

My car came with the 1945 Holley and that is where I ran the distributor vacuum advance line. Later I on switched to the 1920 Holley Economaster.
It is much easier to tune and rejet. I used the ported vacuum fitting for best results and no pinging.

Thanks Guys for all the help i got it figured out but i still am not too sure of what i did. I did adjust the timing to 12degrees and now it seems to run great. Even better than before. I also pulled the plugs and cleaned and regapped them to .045 instead of .035. It seems to have more power expecially when going uphill. Again Thanks!
