My mechanic likes these and recommends them on my SL6 specifically the FL-1A. Curious to know what you guys think and how it compares to the Wix and Napa Gold oil filters. Thanks, nico

I used to run them on my Mustangs with no problems, although I never used one on a Slant something about Motorcraft (Ford) on a Mopar !?

I use the FL1-A on my slant and have for many years. No oil pump stand pipe. I get immediate oil pressure on start-up.

FL-1A is usually a decent filter, certainly better than Fram. But not as good as the Wix 51806/NAPA Gold 1806 with its built-in standpipe.

The only filter I've ever had fail was a Motorcraft. Your results may vary.

Thankyou very much for the replies. He is nice enough to keep them in stock (he doesn't have many slant six customers) and I can get an oil change done very quickly if I dont have time to change it at my house so I don't mind using the motorcraft. nico

Uhh...he's not being "nice" to you by keeping those in stock. They're used on a whackload of Ford, Chrysler, and other-make vehicles built over the last forty-five years. He's trying to get you to accept what he has in stock rather than go to the trouble of ordering in what you might prefer.

I see your point, I will ask him to order the Wix filters and /or buy a few and take him the filter when I get an oil change done. Curious though, I when I look up a WIX oil filter online at auto parts stores such as Rock Auto I am told the WIX 51068 is the correct filter for my '72 SL6. I just bought a WIX 51806 at a local parts store with the built in standpipe. So what is the 51068? I do know that the 51515 is the no standpipe filter....Thanks for clearing this up for me....nico

51068 is the shorter filter. No good reason to use it instead of the longer filter w/standpipe.
