How difficult is it to replace the "pressboard-type" headliner in our cars? I did a cloth type years ago and it didn't turn out so hot.

I've got a totally annihilated cardboard headliner in my Duster right now, and was planning on getting a cloth headliner to replace it with. Even got the bows and everything for it but the headliner itself. But after reading some folks' experiences between installing cloth headliners and the rigid ABS ones, I decided to go with an ABS headliner with some thin sound deadener on the back to make it just a bit more solid and absorb any ambient sound. When I get to it, I'll order one from Dante's. They seem to be pretty good quality and reasonably priced.

Can't answer your question on how easy it is, but from what I can venture, you'll have to remove the fore and aft windshields to properly install it. I believe the gaskets help hold the edges of it against the body metal and stabilize it overall.

Thanks for the input. The body service manual for my 76 Volare Wagon makes no mention of removing windshield, etc. Looks pretty straight forward though. I have the cargo area dome light out for other reasons, and see what appears to be fiberglass insulation between the headliner and car top. I hate that crap and might replace it with something else that diminishes heat inside the car besides the A/C system I have.
