GMB water pumps? I see made in Thailand  which is already 2 strikes against. they never used to be worth the price of the box they were put in ~20 years ago when Trak Auto carried their crap. Are they any better than then?

for those that don't know, Trak Auto was the "start" of the grocery store style auto parts stores, here in the Chicago area, we had them long before Murrays Useless Zone, Advance etc. Trak went the way of Olds, Plymouth, Nash, etc. and then all these others listed above popped up.

I'd avoid it just to be safe. If you know they were crap before, why give them the benefit of the doubt again?

I can't remember which brand it is, but the water pump on my slant now is stamped "made in Japan" and seems to be a good quality unit.

GMB's been around quite a few years. Not an old-line American maker, to be sure, but they've been supplying new made-in-Japan water pumps, of seemingly fine quality, for the slant-6 — sounds like manufacture has now shifted to Thailand. This does not surprise me; it is relatively very costly to manufacture in Japan nowtimes.

so, Dan, are you saying that brand is all right?
I hate re do's (though if I had to do another WP --or whatever repair--on another identical vehicle, it would not bother me in the least)

About the best I can do is say I don't necessarily dismiss it as junk. Given the recent apparent shift in manufacturing, I would tend to proceed carefully (i.e., try and buy another brand made somewhere reputable until we have some reliability data for these)
