Did a search, but didn't notice annything concerning a question I have.

I understand that the early, ( mid-late? 80's), auto/overdrive wasn't offered with a slant bolt pattern, but was rather close to being a 904/OD. This would require an adapter not unlike the early slant/auto combo that was placed into trucks.

My question.....is it possible that the guts from an early AOD might be installed into a slant 904 case, using the tailshaft extension from the O/D trans?

I suspect not, but I'm not an expert, either. Just trying to explore options.

Roger

You definitely cannot swap guts with an AOD, Roger, but I believe they did make a 904 lockup version for the Slant (3 gears) if you just want gas mileage. The A500 swap is cool, but I think I like my T5 better.

I didn't think so, but figured I should confirm. I do have a lock-up trans/convertor for the slant, but would like to go after an AOD swap, so that I can run steeper gears and be able to drive at highway speeds.

So.....it looks like my only option is the adapter plate route.
