What can be done to keep the rocker adjusters from loosening up. I had one get loose about a year ago and the push rod jumped off. Back then I cleaned the threads up with brake cleaner and put a drop of Lock-Tight on each after the lash was set.
Can I use a jam nut instead or is the a better way?

Eventually I had to get shorter pushrods....

Before that I bought some half nuts to use as jam nuts. $.10ea or less.

Stop by....I have a whole bag.

Do you have the specs/part# on those half nuts?
This new cam seems to have a slitly larger base circle(.010) an I had to loosen them a little more. They where almost to loose before and now I think they'll be trying to loosen up. Half nuts should work great.

About those lock nuts....

I ordered a set of "Half Nuts" at the local machine shop. They are just like any other 3/8 fine thread nut but half the depth. They were very inexpensive. They are just the thing.

The hardest part about this item is listening to the comedy act you get when ordering them.....no matter what you say.... "half nuts"will be spoken at least 9 times (with laughter) before you leave.

Then you go to pick them up ....(after the phone call... "yer half nuts....are here!") ....same routine by staff in front of whatever collection of customers is present.....sometimes I play along.
Found it!!!

Looks like these are the correct ones

The jam nuts just fix the main symptom of a "short" valve train.

You can shim the rockers.....ick

You can use jam nuts....not exactly the svelte high rpm valvetrain I was after...

You can get shorter pushrods from Smith Bros.

You will need to measure.

Jam nuts in vice. Rotate handle.

Whale oil beef hooked!
