Not sure about the kickdown linkage.
Have you tried maybe driving it in low 1 0r2 instead of drive ,and see what it does.
Yeah I've dropped it into 2nd and it really cuts out. I'm thinking its a spark issue with the ECM or fuel pressure problem. Its getting fuel all the time when its running no leaks in the fuel system, but the pump itself might be failing in some way.

Oh.. dont mind the hood bondo either. I've been doing some body work when I have time and I am removing all the eblems on the truck so it looks kinda junky right now

around 1min 40 seconds is where it really acts up and you can hear it.

when you dropped it in 2nd I take it , it started messing up before 45mph . maybe it is more with the rpm instead of mph.
The only thing else I can think of is try it at night , and put a good load on the engine ,while in drive and holding the break.maybe it will start doing it then also , but maybe that will eliminate a bad spark plug.

Good luck
Dave

Yeah .. I pretty much was rolling at about 35 mph ideling. Then I dropped it into 2nd and gave it gas and it just sucked air like in the video.

Just out of curiosity, why an electric pump? I'd switch back to a mechanical pump just to see if it made any difference.

Do you have catalytic converters? A clogged one will cause a chugging and drivability something like what you describe.

I chose an electric fuel pump because its more vocal than a mechanical. When I say vocal I am saying that it actually makes noise if its sucking air or whatever. The mechanical pump. You cant hear anything. Just the engine.

I thought maybe the catylitic converter was plugged as well. Well, it was a thought. Someone on here once said that if I dont have the smog pump injecting air it would clog up faster too.. Hmmm .. I like that idea the best.

Did you happen to watch video 2? You can really hear what its doing about half way down when I turn the truck around and start driving back to my home

I had that same problem with mine 1945 and it was stuff in the carb fuel passages/jets and (i cant remember what it came off of ) I changed the bowl/center section and it stopped. My car would just go geo-thermo-nucular crazy and shut off before the change.

Two things, first, at an idle, your oil pressure is probably fine. Check it with a gauge to be certain. A good rule is 10# per 1000 rpm. That means you need 50# for 5000 RPM.

Second, your fuel pump is located too high. An electric has lots of push, but no pull. Get it mounted as low as possible, preferrably close to the tank. Your tank should be back under the bed. Correct me if I'm wrong. When were the last in cab tanks used?

I suggest going back to a mechanical pump, but it's up to you. I use those little electrics to pump fuel between containers when feeling exceptionally lazy. That would be on days that end in y.

Good point Ceej.........your probably not getting enough fuel pressure at speed. You have enough to start out because the bowl is full. When it empties you have a problem.

Well, I drove it to work today and for some reason the electric pump wouldn't prime. So I hooked up the mechanical pump and it still wasn't pumping to the carb. The lines were full of gas, but no fuel in the bowl. So I thought.. hmmm.. fuel filter? I filled the bowl with gas, unplugged the output of the filter that goes to the carb and started it up and no gas shot out of the output. Apparently the filter was just pushing the fuel right back into the tank from being clogged. So I hooked the line directly to the carb from the mech. pump, started it up and it ran. I then replaced the filter with a new filter 5034 i believe and tried to start it up and it ran but it ran real crappy. I installed a fuel pressure T to see what the pressure was and it was only reading around 2psi of pressure. So I pulled the line back off, installed an inline filter with no return and ran it.. it ran a lot better, but it was still cutting out a little bit. not nearly as bad, but it still did. So I ordered a new mechanical pump and I'm going to install it tomorrow. I also dropped the catilytic converter, and hollowed it out. Hopefully with the new mechanical pump it will run better. I might install the electric fuel pump above the tank to help push the fuel to the pump so it doesnt have to work as hard too. I dont know ... we'll see. And yes, the tank is under the bed.

The standard rebuild kit I got comes with new jets, and the complete accelerator pump assembly. Do you think this might help too? It is pumping the gas into the carb when i pump the accelerator pump so I know thats working right but I dont know how well the jets are or are not working. I know when I rebuilt the carb i made sure to pull the jets out and clean everything really good with gunk remover carb cleaner.. I dont know. I'll replace the mech. pump and see what happens. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will fix my problem that I've been having. I should just get a good 1BBL carb that I dont have to mess with every two days

Also, one of the rubber lines I had on there was on the pressure side but it was soft and had quite a few little cracks in it. I'm sure it wouldn't really affect it because it was on the pressure side and not on the vacuum side but it wasn't a good thing. So i replaced it with 180psi fuel injection line. That should do the trick

Keep us informed. A new pump, lines, filter and carb rebuild should do it.

well it has all new lines already. only thing I hadent replaced was that filter. I'll probably just rebuild that carb tomorrow too. Comes with new jets and everything, unlike my old NAPA carb kit I bought. $10.00 more than the napa, but it looks like its worth it. Only thing I am hoping is that the sending unit isnt acting up again. I cut the lines and brazed two new lines into it so I dont imagine it is the problem now, but just to make sure I am going to drop the tank too. I'll try to take some pictures as well :)

My 83 D-150 may have the exact same symptom, bucks at light throttle, at say 35 to 40 MPH. I have not resolved the problem, but I know how to make it happen, just fill the fuel tank full. For what ever reason, with a completely full tank of gas, for the first 15 to twenty miles, truck will pull from a dead stop just fine, start rolling with traffic and the motor bucks heavy, also noticed the idle speed goes up a bit. Betting its the charcoal canister, recently just been putting up with it after a fill up.
