Hey guys! I have a good question (at least I think it is) about
mystery fluid (ATF).

What the hecks the difference????? Please someone tell me???

I have a 67 A100 with a A745 trans, I drained the oil and it was
definitely ATF oil. So I look in the manual and it says to
either use an old Chrysler part #AQ-ATF-2848A or Dexron ATF.

Well the new ATF+3 says it replaces ALL old Chrysler ATF's,
so is this the stuff to use? Or is the new Dexron III? Or
I've even heard Type F is superior??

Is there a Manual Trans expert out there??

BTW-I've tried 80/90w oil in the trans and it shifted horribly, very
slow and ground a bit into second gear. With the ATF that was in
it prior it shifted perfectly, so I definitely want to switch back.

Thanks in advance
Mike in WA

The mopar ATF+3 fluid has additives in it so you won't get shudder with a lock-up torque convertor. It definately works. I had a rubber tranny cooler line on my Dakota let go and it pumped most of the fluid on the ground. I just refilled with Dextron III and sure enough the lock-up torque convertor started to shudder. Drained the fluid and refilled with ATF+3 and no more shudder.

For your tranny I would say go with the ARF+3 or Dextron III, which ever is the easiest to come by.

I have heard in racing applications the Ford fluid has some advantages.
