My 65 Dart has a gas pedal that is what I would call touchy. I did a super six upgrade to it and now have a cable setup and fire wall mounted pedal of course. My problem is that the pedal is very hard to control from idle to off idle. When I step on the pedal I have to be real easy on it or I the car jumps. It is like something is sticky and then all of a sudden lets go. The cable is not the problem however. I have a light spring on the return and everything is hooked up in a normal way. Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks-Howard

Try a heavier throttle return spring, and make sure your throttle cable is adjusted and hooked up correctly.

Better a touchy gas peddle than a touchy wife... Dan is on to something, heavy will help.

Well I cannot say for sure that the cable is adjusted or installed correctly. It came from a 1977 Aspen and I had very limited choices for coming through the firewall so wherever it came through is where the cable is routed to the carburetor. When I take it off the linkage it slips freely and when I clamp it to the linkage I have just a little free play so there is no tension from the cable on the linkage.
I will try a heavier spring but this seems counter intuitive being that there is this sort of heavy foot needed when there is zero pressure on the throttle to get the pedal to move the throttle/linkage. It is like a sticky spot so maybe the heavier spring will help. Can't hurt to try-Thanks

The spring or the wife? One thing is sure, either one will get you where you don't want to be before you hardly have time to blink.

Yup.

One other point. Where the cable passes through the fire wall, it has to line up perpendicular to the attachment point on the peddle assembly so that when the peddle is depressed the cable is pulled straight out not at an angle. Also the cable assembly that passes through the fire wall needs to be secured so it can't move and become dislodged from the hole.

Depending on how your cable is made, either a stack of 2 or 3 flat washers held in place by a "C" clip, or a small length of rubber tubing clamped in place by a hose clamp will work nicely to hold it in place.
