Maybe I'm little impatience, but I really like to have your opinion, about cam degrees.

I have stock engine and lobe centerlines are (with federal Mogul timing set) I/E 101* / 117*. So it's now 8 degrees advanced. Is this too much and what effect that have to the vacuum, power and MPG's??? Or is it ok?

I have searched many days old posts to find out, what effect much advanced cam have, but I haven't found any. Everytime somebody recommend to advance 2-4 degrees, but never more than that.

I have advanced cams up to 8 degrees and this helped the low speed power and gas milage. The downside was that the engine was less powerful over 3000 RPM.

2-4 degrees keep the low speed nice and gives good mid range.

Cam advance needs will be different for every engine so it is really hard to say what will work best for your combonation.

You can try some different settings by increasing the size of the hole where the cam dowel pin goes into the top gear and use a shim to move the cam in relation to the gear. Cover the shim with a larger washer so it can not get loose into the engine. Try retarding your cam a little to see if that helps your performance.

Thanks Doc. I already have some different bushings for the cam sprocket ( made by friend of mine , who is absolutely excellent machinist). So I only have to try retarding it to know myself what happens.
