Getting upset with me won't clear up your mental image of the fan you have installed. Going and taking a good hard look at it will. Either it's a solid fan or it's a fan with a viscous clutch. There's no such thing as a "viscous fan", and there's no way to bolt a fan intended for use with a clutch directly to the water pump.

I love it when I create debate. In retrospect, I should have really included electric fans in my poll. I had no idea so many people were running electric fans to cool their motors. Remember that this is just an opinion poll so don't take it too seriously or read too deep into "all the variables". It's simply, "what do you use in your particular application of slant powered vehicles. That's it.

Your right on Pat. I just stated what I have and it gets technical. I find it quite odd that I have one of those lopsided fans that come with the viscous setup and no clutch. People say I'm wrong and that it can't be so. It was that way when I bought it and that's the way it's staying. I find it odd myself that it's that way, but as you know. Mopar did some goofyass things in the day. Weather this is factory or some others doing, I can't say. I'm mearly stating facts as to what I have.
FWIRW, I'd really like to find a 7 blade, but I can't find one small enough for a A100 shroud.

No big mystery here, and nothing goofyassed, either. There were plenty of direct-drive 5-blade and 7-blade fans with asymmetrical blade placement. Sounds like you have one of those.

I ran the MOPAR 5 blade clutch fan for years from Summit racing in my 74 Swinger. It is a nice piece however, I switched to an electric a few years ago to get more engine heat in the winter and better mileage. It rarely turns on in the winter, and doesn't come on that often during the summer with a 180 Super Stat. In the summer, it comes on during heat soak after I shut off the engine or in stop and go traffic. Most of the time it stays off during my 64 miles commutes.

I run the 16" $30 Pro-Comp fan off eBay (it is the thinnest at 3") and it only pulls about 10 amps max. I use a 210 degree GM temp switch in the radiator and a Bosch relay and a arming and a overide switch inside. Everything came to less than $75.00. It's been working well for the past two years (about 60,000 miles now).

During a SEARCH for information I came across this thread. I have a 6 Blade Fan that I believe is stock. I have NO cooling problems whatsoever. The same fan is on my 64' 270 with A/C, but it also has a small shroud. Both cars have the same radiator. Any info. on this type of Fan? Safe or Unsafe?

I just made the switch to a dual electric fan unit from a 99 caravan. I haven't filled up again so I can't claim anything with mileage. But I have noticed that even in the 30's-40's*F outside it warms up a heck of a lot quicker than it did with the original fan, that I'm not sure if it had a clutch or not.

Current truck: 98.5 Ram 2500 ccsb, sport, 24v cummins, 5spd, 4.5" lift, 35's, 5" straight pipe.

I'm running a 16 inch flex a lite electric on my truck. It's much quieter than the factory six bladed "flyswatter" that moved more air than the engine.

It's also a lot easier to work on the truck without that huge fan shround in the way.
