Okay, I finally figured out and fixed the vacuum leak that I've had for months now. I've got a Weber 36DCNVH 2bbl carb on an Offy intake, and I've also got another Weber 36DCNVH that works. I'm trying to decide if I should keep the 36DCNVH, or if I should save up for a 38DGES. Except for a Dutra front manifold and modded rear manifold, this is a pretty much stock slant 225 in a '78 Volare. My goals are daily driver reliability first and foremost, and maybe a little performance upgrade (like acceleration) after that.
Let me know what ya'll think. This carb is okay, and I like the fact that I have a spare, but I've heard that it might not be enough. Also, I don't think a 4bbl carb would be a good choice for me.
Thanks! :)

Tried to google for info on this 36DCNVH but no success.

All I can see is that both barrel opens at same time but is useful on what kind of engines: like 2.2L and up?

Oh, is carb capable of tuning for MPG?

Cheers, Wizard

Yes, it is a synchronous carb. I have read that with Weber carbs its fairly easy to change jets, venturis, and other parts. I was just contemplating if I should keep this 36DCNVH carb and tune/modify it, or if I would better off with a 38DGES.
Just wondering, and hoping to hear some other opinions.

For info on this and other Weber carbs, go to:

Pierce Manifolds

Lots of info, pics, etc.

I hear you on tunaiblity. :)

That why I have a Weber in my caravan. DFAV 32/36 but I'm still not finding the power at upper range. Doesn't roar if I snap open WOT, even I couldn't make go black smoke with biggest jet by trial in secondary.

That why I asked you on your experiences with your weber as I might want to try different weber. Also what is this diaphgram with vacuum hose is for?

The website doesn't say anything about this carb in particular applications and is it able to be tuned for mpg and have power at top end.

Cheers, Wizard

Well, my first experience with Weber carbs was several years ago when I bought an Offy dual carb intake with twin Webers installed. It ran fine, and looked really cool, but I think that two of these carbs were too much for my slant. So, I removed the dual carb intake and sold it minus the Weber carbs. I reinstalled an Offy 4bbl intake with an adapter plate and one of these Weber 36DCNVH carbs. I think with a little tweaking this 36DCNVH will be fine, although I still have a lot to learn about carbs. I have heard other people say that the Weber 36DCNVH is a bit small for a slant, but then again, many slants run with 1bbl carbs.
So, I'm still thinking about it. I'm not looking for the ultimate 2bbl carb, but I think Weber makes good carbs, plus I like the fact that I have two of these carbs.
If I figure out anything new, I'll let ya know.
Thanks,

I have a Weber in my lap that has 1 7/8" secondary, and just a fuzz shy of 1 1/4 on the primary.

It is a DGAV-3381 I guess it is 32mm x 36mm. Bigger than a super six BBD. Ought to have great throttle response. Good MPG?

Probably be good on a mild slant or stock.

Rug_Trucker,

Look at side of weber embossed into the two barrels is within a round panel on each will have two digits each cast in. In my case, for 32/36 DFAV venturi size is 26/27 (pri/sec), in mm diameter.

Cheers, Wizard

OK mine is 26/27 also. I learned something new!

That sounds similar to my situation. My slant does fine at idle and just normal cruising, but if I "punch it", its like there is no throttle response. It kind of acts like a bog, but I don't think it is a bog.

I think that is the choke.

I really don't know. I have read that Weber carbs are very tunable (is that a word?), but I'm still learning.

Cheers, Wizard

In reply to your impression. EXACTLY what I am having. Top end felt like flat not like bog. Exactly. SO could be the ingition or carb is "choking" the engine at top?

I'd be surprised if that weber is "too small" even a 2.2! I do have wideband O2 with meter. Do you have similar setup hooked up on yours? This is vital tool to use when tuning a carb.

Cheers, Wizard

I thnik your right.
No, I don't have an O2 sensor or meter like you. It would be nice to have though.
So, you don't think the Weber 36DCNVH is too small? I may email the techs at Pierce Manifolds to see what they say.
If I find out anything else I'll post it here.

Did you ask about this too about carb size for DFAV for 2.2L (this is chrysler 4 cylinder), as well?

Cheers, Wizard

Are you stock cam Wes? I am thinking this is a little more CFM than a super six BBD. The venturi's are smaller than on the 318BBD's
