I am trying to determine what year /6 is in my 65 barracuda. The reason being I bought a felpro valve cover gasket and it doesn't fit. I double checked the numbers and it shows to be correct unless felpro shipped the wrong pc. The Chiltons manual said there is a 14 digit number on the block at the # 1 cyl. All of the numbers I see are A 225 2 08 2. I don't see any other numbers. Am I looking at the wrong place for the numbers?
I'm fairly new to the /6 so I need help.
thanks,
Tommy

i could be wrong, its happened before...but i think that valve cover gaskets are the same size for all of them, rock auto gives me the same part number for a 62 dart w a 170 and a 80s truck with a 225 2bbl, so it seems everything in between would be the same, but i could be wrong.
as for engine numbers theres lots of info on here you can find using the search function, i havent really looked about that myself so cant help ya with identifying it.

Hydro motor/head perhaps? 1981 with switch to hydro cam the head changed and I believe the valve cover and gasket changed also.I'm quite often wrong also but that'll give you something to mull over till one of the experts chimes in. :)

Welcome on the board, Tadams. Skip the Chilton book — they, like Haynes books, are just about worthless. You'll want to get the book(s) described in this thread as soon as you can.

A 225 2 08 2 means a 1965-model 225 engine built on February 8 of 1965. The final "2" refers to which specific production line or shift built this engine.

The valve cover gasket is the same for all 1960-1980 engines. The 1981-up heads originally used with hydraulic-lifter engines take a different valve cover, with some additional bolts at the corners — therefore a different gasket.

thanks to all for your input. You have been most helpful. Perhaps felpro just put the wrong gasket in the box. Like I said the numbers show it to be correct.
THANKS AGAIN!!!

It's entirely possible that the later head has been installed on the 65 block. Your best bet, just to be absolutely sure, is to take either the old gasket or the valve cover to the parts store and match it up.

I feel like felpro maybe sent the wrong part. I had purchased a cyl head gasket kit which included a valve cover gasket and it was the proper one, but that was a while back. As I said the part number showed it was correct but it is very different from what I need.
Thanks again for all of the help.
Tommy
