The slant six racing rules states you can only earn points at seven races. We have eight races on the west coast plus Kearney. I realize for the national championship the best four results are utilized and you can drop a lesser result. Here is the rub, there is a believe that if we race at every event (9)then the last two would not count for points. This would or could reduce car count. I say you can run as many as you want an long as you declare your intentions to drop a prior race. I am posting here so maybe Seymour or Doc or whoever can clarify or instruct us on the proper format. Maybe jusy a simple ammendment to the rules ( delete the 7 race maximun).I realize that a lot of us race sl/6 for the fun and comraderie but some are dedicated points racers and want clarification. Thanks If i have it all wrong please feel free to show me the way.

Having a limit on 7 points races for any individual does make it somewhat more fair for those of us who cannot possibly make all 9 races. However, I would think that an individual who does make it to all 9 races should also have an incentive and therefore should be able to pick his best 7 races to score. (Maybe that is the way it is already...I'm not sure.) If there is some controversy over the issue, the club could also establish two different types of classes, one for gross point winner (includes points from all 9 races) and one class for net points winner (best total points for 7 races). My guess is the gross points winner would most likely be the net points winner, but not necessarily. That would give those of us unable to make all 9 races a more fair chance at the national winners circle. For me personally, trying to get to Woodburn twice a year and Las Vegas once a year, from Sacramento, is quite a strech of resources. However, if I was in the running for net points champion, I would definately make one of those races.

Forgive me if I'm blowing smoke and remember I'm the new guy.

According to the last racing rules that were published in the February, 2008 issue of SSRN, it is supposed to work like this. Round win points are only counted for the best four out of seven races, this was done to try to level the playing field somewhat for racers that could only get to a limited number of events. Seven is still a lot and I don't believe anybody has entered more than 7 Slant 6 ponts races in the past few years. If you do want to enter more than 7 events, you can choose which events you don't want to count, but you must do so before the ladder is drawn up and the first round pairings determined. You must clearly communicate your desire to not have the points counted to the race director or anybody else that will listen before the ladder is drawn up. You can still earn prize money at this event, and you can keep opponents from earing points, but you can't count any points no matter how well you do. If you enter more than 7 events and never elect to have one of them be a non-points race for you, than no points will be counted for the eigth or more events.

These rules were all devised at a time when the Slant 6 racing scene was quite different than it is now. If racers wish to rewrite them there should be a way to do so but I don't know exactly what that would be.
