Hello everyone,

Here's our 1973 Gold Duster with a 225 slant six. My wife's grandmother bought this car brand new in 1973 in Williamsburg Virginia, and drove it for almost 30 years or so until her age and physical health prevented her from driving. When my wife was a little girl her, her mother and grandmother went on many shopping trips in the Duster in the 1970s and 1980s since it was one of the first cars in her family with air conditioning!

Through the years it has served her family as being the "old reliable" backup vehicle when many of the newer vehicles through the years weren't so reliable.

Even when my wife and myself were dating as teenagers in the late '80s I thought it was really cool that her grandmother owned such a cool coupe. A few years ago, after my wife's grandmother passed away and the car sat neglected for a few years, I was finally able to get my wife's mom to sell it to me.

Although I've kicked around different ideas from restoration to modification, it seems what I really want to do is to simply fix the car back up to original condition and enjoy the car as a frequent/weekend driver.

Unfortunately I do not have a garage myself, so progress has been practically nill. I am currently putting feelers to a few local bodyshops to get a plan together and begin work, even if it's just to get a little done at a time as our budget allows.

Anway, just wanted to say "hi" and say what a cool forum this is.

Peace. 8)

Welcome! I have a few dusters myself including a '73 gold duster..in gold!!

Mine has the disc brakes (big bolt pattern), 225/at on the column, 2.76 geared 7.25 rear, tan interior (buckets from a '99 intrepid), and remains mostly stock. Power steering as well but no a/c.

Looks like you have a decent starting point. Drive it as a rolling project and enjoy it. I love mine, very very reliable!!

Keep us updated on the progress.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the AC still works great and is appreciated on those hot summer days.

Beautiful Duster! Thanks for the pic.

I'm hoping to get some progress made soon, and I will keep this thread updated from time to time.

In the first pic you may notice the '90 turbo Caravan on jackstands. Well, that project was nixed a few months ago as we decided it would be better to devote time and resources to the Duster. And for kicks I'll mention that all of our vehicles currently are Mopar-- I drive a '92 Dakota w/ 354,000 plus original miles and also a '93 Caravan (retired family van, not pictured). My wife has the '05 GC.

(sorry, the M*rcury Grand Marquis in the pictures belongs to my dad, currently awaiting a new transmission cable).
