Do you really want a 4:1-ish 1st gear and wheels that stick out about 8" per side?

a Dakota rear won't stick out that bad; the bigger pitfall is if it is newer than 90, it will have 6 lug axles.

nothing is impossible.....axel swaps can fix the six lug issue and if u know anything about aspens (and you wouldnt be here if u didnt) you know how far under the car the wheels are....anyway theres also an auto.....dunno if its two wheel drive though... anyway the teardown is comming soon and im brainstorming.... im headed into powertrains class...maybe ill get a chance to regear it too.

No, but you can put the 5-lug Dakota axles in the '96 and older 6-lug housing.

I just completed a simular swap into a Plymouth Caravelle (1978) This is the same platform as the aspen.
I put an 89 dakota sport 3:91 posi,1975 3peed OD( heavy case) behind my slant. Works well after I corrected the pinion angle.
I still have a vibration when I push in the clutch. I'm pretty sure it's the clutch brg.
Good luck.
