At one time there were "kits" available to install A/C in the dash of these trucks. Don't know if they are still available. Most of the A/C kit companies have gone out of business, since very few cars/trucks come from the factory without A/C. I can check on monday. There are "universal" kits available. I have a compressor mount kit available. see this link.

hi charlie- you seem to know tons about ac in cars. think i only had 1 ac car in 40 yrs in nj, but now in fla, ac is standard procedure. thinking of putting one in my 80 sl6 volare wagon. my question is this: there are ac aftermarket kits available in the car mags. all of these are recirculation kits. recirculation usually cools the air faster than factory units that bring in outside air. dont really care about ventilating outside air . do care about effective cooling though. in your opinion and vast experience would a back yard mechanic like me be better off strapping in one of these kits(vintage air is one company) or scrounging the major factory parts (compressor, evaporator, accumulator) from a junk yard f body. im wondering if the factory parts cool better than the aftermarket stuff. some of that stuff is chinese. my concern with this alternative is that the used parts may require evaluation and repair by ac mechanic shops most of whom here are clip joints, one step under welders for soaking the unwary. seems to be more risk ofgoing to the cleaners this way although the initial acquisition price would be much less. back in 65 i assisted a friend putting in an aftermarket recirculator ac in a mustang coupe. it wasnt that difficult and worked fine for years. only clip was when it had to be initially purged and charged with r12 by an ac mechanic. i figure either way the radiator would have to be changed to a larger one and the smog pump and dual cat system would have to go. no problem . i think a 77 f body exhaust pipe with the single cat would bolt right in. coppers tell me while there are no dmv inspection stations in fla which automatically fail you each year for emissions like in nj, there are spot inspections on the road which i have never seen here in south fla. have you seen them in north fla where you are? thanks tons for your sage advice. bob f

Delawarelife: I did some checking and found a A/C kit available for your truck. The inside unit is $446.50. Then there is the "mount & drive", compressor, and condensor, and hose kit. This is not a knee knocker under dash unit. It mounts up behind the dash and the air outlets are in the dash, similar to factory.
