Here are a few questions that have been bugging me lately:

Are the floor humps from 3 and 4-speed '67-76 A-bodies at all similar to '65-66 A-body 4-speed humps? All I know is in '65 they had a round hole for the boot, and in '66 they have an oval hole. Any significant changes for '67?

I would like to be able to add a manual transmission to my '65, and the floor hump seems to be the biggest obstacle right now (as in I can't find any for a '65). The later ones seem to be easier to find, and are also being reproduced. Will a newer one fit in an early a-body? (I still want to be able to use the original style 4-speed moulded carpet).

Also: Has anybody attempted using a Keisler transmission kit in a n early A-body? The kit seems very impressive, but also very expensive. Are there any other alternatives that might be more affordable, and doesn't require doing major floor and crossmember surgery?

... and is a 4-speed style floor hump required for the newer 5-speed transmissions?

I might have to use an A833 for the time being, but would much rather have a nice modern 5-speed.

You can probably fit a T5 under the standard floor hump. As an alternative to the Kessler setup you might contact Castlemaine Rod Shop ( http://www.rodshop.com.au/ ). They produce a custom bell housing for mating a Toyota Supra 5 speed to a Mopar 318/360. With favorable exchange rates this might be an attractive option. I can purchase salvage yard Supra 5 speeds for $80 locally, these are supposed to be capable of handling 400 hp.

I put a T5 in my '64 Dart (previously 904) and needed no hump, although it's a bit tight and I had to make new upper and lower X members. Made my own kit, but Keisler says in their ad that they do Slant conversions.

Ehernberg's Green Brick has the kiesler conversion. The later humps may work in your '65 with a little "modification". The floor pans are slightly differant.

I found the following adapters on the Castlemaine Rod shop website:

V6 Holden T5 box to Chrysler V8, Hemi 6, Slant 6

and

T5 To Chrysler Adapter Plate CRS1808 - 200mm Input


Would any of this work with available T-5's here in North America?

The T5 adapters may be a cheap way out.

I believe the V6 Castlemaine refers to is a GM V6. They told me to look in Buicks with a V6 but I think those cars all have autos. An S10 application might be work. They can provide you with the specs on the input shaft of the T5 for a good match up.

Can someone make me a paper template for the factory cutout shape for the early A-body floor hump? I'd like to put in an 833 in a '65 Valiant. I don't have the proper hump but I want to keep the original shape in the floor as I will come across the proper hump -- eventually.

I just saw Layson at a local car show. They had several floor humps on display. I know they had an original-looking repro A-body A833 4spd hump. Layson's is a local mopar specialist. I believe they are out of Puyallup or Tacoma, WA.

Laysons has the humps listed for '67 - 76 A-bodies, they claim that these can be modified with a few bends and cuts to work on the early cars. I may go with the T5 as I believe that will fit with the original floor pan. Ultimately I wanted the T5. I have an 833 O/D that I wanted to use as a quick solution. I don't want to hack the floor unless I know it'll be a good fit.

I know that I swapped in an early tunnel which I had cut out of an early 4spd A-body. The trans just barely fits. If it were the slightest smaller, I think you'd have trouble R & R'ing the trans in the car.
