The plate solely acts as a device to fill the hole, turn the amp on and off and a spot I can plug my MP3 player into.

nice job! what is the mp3 hook up..brand and where did you get it?

Love the shifter,..what is that under the dash a CB?? cool 8)

The compartment resulting from the fresh air block off makes a nice resonance chamber which goes up the firewall, and thus, through the roof. This gives those little 4" speakers the illusion of being something much nicer. That coupled with a pair of 6x9 in the back makes for a nice sounding system
the fresh air door idea sounds great..people tend to forget about the resonance sound factor...(nerdy I know)...just cutting a hole in the door and putting a speaker in works but I find if you mess around a little, like putting a box behind the speaker or just some rubber sound material to line the door skin can make a big difference

What scares me most about installing a sterieo is the old wiring..I know some body has already stated this..(and yes Im to lazy to look up who did)..I guess I could put in a new fuse pannel...right after I finish the........

On the side I'm a audio wholesaler. It's a headphone jack that feeds into the rca inputs of the amp. I can probably get ya just about anything ya need.

Yes you can do it that way, but if you have nice speakers, might as well use em ;)

2.5 mini jack will get you anything you need in there. My plan is to keep the AM radio, and put another deck in the glovebox. I bought an ebay glovebox liner to play with, and I'll just get one with minijack out. Speakers, well either replace the center grille one with two small speakers like some others have done, or god forbid take a knife to my virgin package tray =) About as appealing as cutting the doors....

Some better pics.

The MP3 player I have (Zune) has a built in FM tuner so I have all my CD's, and FM radio ready to rock out the tunes.

2 4" speakers hiddend in the factory location.

Car didn't come with the package tray so we did what we could to pretty it up without having ugly 6 x 9's above the deck and visible.

I went with the Retrosound from Crutchfield. It has a Aux jack for Ipod ect and a usb port for a flash drive. Youi can also get a 10 disc cd changer for it. I must have caught it on sale because I don't think I paid 275.00 for it. It fit right in my 75's dash where someone had a 2 knob cassette player. I usually listen to my XM radio and it plugs in Aux jack. The good thing is it looks like a AM/FM radio which aren't really worth stealing  I think it also has infrared remote capability so you can hide it and use remote. I'm at work right now so I can't look and owners manual and tell you.

I have a '75 Dart and I am planning to leave the original radio where it is, and install a new sound system independent from it. I have two speakers, and an amplifier, which I will place wherever it is convenient, and then place a power switch and input jack in the dashboard (maybe hidden in the ash tray area.) It won't be good for anything but playing music from an ipod, but that's all I want.

I'll post again once I've got it set up and let you all know how it works out.
