will EFI make much of a difference?
No, I think the point is that if you build a light car and get the set-up correct you don't need a ton of HP.

I'm in Kearney NE at the hotel after our Slant race and you wont believe how gutted these "race" cars are  (almost scary  ).

Oh, I am sure that there are some great engine mods in those cars, but it's nothing secret. If you search or ask here, 30 people will give you their 200+ hp builds. If you ask for a 400 hp EFI, blown engine build you are going to get one or two replies of proven builds. The rest is theory and speculation.

Sure!

If you click on the "Home" Button you'll find an "Articles" section. Read the information there and then search for variations on these builds in the forum. Read a bunch, then when you decide what you want to do, if there are more questions, just ask! :D

If you search and read in the various sections, you're likely to find what your looking for. There are build specs and thoughts on the different configurations. There are a lot of options, so asking for us to post about them in a single thread doesn't make much sense.

You said to forget the word budget, but you really need to nail down what your going to spend on this. Most of us think in US dollars, but you have some folks that can help you with that in AU dollars as well. Some of the parts that are mainstream over here, may not be on your continent, and vice-versa.

Ceej,
Isn't there a thread in the Engine section called Engine build matrix or something like that?
I think there were a few reliable people detailing their builds in that message thread.

I've had a new thought this week,

triple weber setup with NOS backed by beefed up 3speed Torqueflite.

4:11's in the diff, Ford nine inch or chrysler 8 3/4

Triple Weber carbs = $$$$$$

You'll have to open up that engine and do some work to get the most out of triples, and beef things up to cope with the NOS. But yes, worked Slant 6 with triple Webers and NOS and 4.11's = tyre frying fun.

estimate around 8000 HP  ...... :) just kidding.
Here's a link for you, a fellow "down under" board member's Slant with triples. http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... highlight=
From using an online HP calculater this Val has 270rwhp, which puts it pretty darn close to 300fwhp.............and then you want to put NOS on top of that...... at least you'll find any hidden weakness in the drive line.

How about a swap from the 727 to a 904? You would regain some lost HP.

I really want to keep the 727 because its what the car came with from factory.

I just wanted to beef it up a bit so it can handle the power and not lose much going to the wheels

whats the difference between the 727 and the 904?
