will the 8.25" carrier from a early 90's Dakota with ABS tone ring fit my 74 8.25" housing? Im trying to find a used sure grip or should I say cheap and they seem to be around in Jeeps and Dakota's The spline count is 27 so I should be o.k. right? I have access to a lathe if need be I could cut it off. Anyone done this before?
Thanks
Joe

it can also be unbolted w/o consequence since your car does not need the tone ring. I have a NOS Mopar sure grip with a tone ring and I am going to be answering taht very riddle when I assemble my F body 8-1/4; if it don't fit I will be removing the ring gear so I can get the tone ring off and re installing my ring gear.

Most of the mopar rags, and at least one book by Adkins says that this will work. I personally haven't tryed it, but I don't see a big problem
as long as the spline count jives.
