I got my new rotors from Baer the other day. These are 13 x 1.250 inch and they are 6 lbs lighter per side than the cast iron rotors that I was running. Should have the car out in the spring to see what it feels like.

Porsche calipers... I need a pic of the back side to see how those are mounted.
Or are you using strange spindles or the like?

The Porsche calipers are radial mounts so you just need a simple bracket for them to bolt to. Doesn't take much time to fabricate the brackets if you have the correct equipment. I made these from 416 SST bar stock.

This picture might do a better job of showing the caliper bracket. Very simple right angle type of bracket. This makes a very stiff bracket that is lightweight. Sometimes I make them from aluminum, sometimes from steel.

Pretty...

Thanks for the pics, Andy.

I've been looking at those Baer Mustang Cobra replacements for Project V, but they're down on my list due to cost and other fish...

I assume those are Eradispeed II or Plus or whatever?

My garage expansion is nearly done, and engine is about ready to drop into the Valiant. Reassemble front susp and mount front seat and it's ready to race again...

Lou

Hi Lou, good news on the garage. Always nice to have a place to wrench.

These rotors were custom built per my drawing so they don't have a marketing name. They would probably be called an Eradispeed Plus if they existed in the catalog. They are basically a Mercedes S600 rotor with a Ford Mustang center. Which oddly enough, Baer didn't have a design for!

Do you mean the early Mustang KH type centre?

I like your bracket design. Science and simplicity.

Can you tell us a little about what appears to be a combination strut rod and sway bar mount using spherical rod ends?

That is just an anti-sway bar end that I came up with. I made new strut bars from 4130 chrome moly and had them heat treated to handle the load. The anti-sway bar is built from chrome moly tubing so it is very lightweight. The ends are threaded to accept the Heim rod end. Very simple system but it would be too expensive to sell as a product. Also, it is pretty harsh on the street as it is a solid connection.

I snapped a picture of the 13 inch Mustang based kit that DoctorDiff sells for Mopars. This is a fairly inexpensive kit that uses OEM hardware from a Cobra. Just need a big bearing spindle and the hub and bracket kit from DoctorDiff and you're ready to go.

Elaborate please... Later model big bolt pattern parts?
Also is that the same type of spindle you're using with the porsche calipers and custom rotors?

OH YEAH ALMOST FORGOT! ImageImage

A big bearing spindle is a 1973 or newer knuckle. A and E body versions are short while those from the B body and FMJ are taller.

I recommend the tall, lightweight knuckle that came on the 80's FMJ vehicles. Those knuckles are only 6.5 lbs, have the extra height for a better camber curve, and have the big beefy spindle.

From the DoctorDiff web site...

DoctorDiff 13″ front disc brake kit includes loaded Cobra calipers, billet aluminum caliper brackets, rotors, hubs, bearings, seals, dust caps, stainless flex lines and hardware. All new parts $800

I mounted up the 14 inch DoctorDiff kit for a trial fit. This kit uses the 14 inch rotor from a late model Charger as well as a Viper caliper. I hung an 18x9 inch Mustang rim on it just to check clearances. Everything fits pretty nice but you would probably need to do some hammer work to clear a big fat 18 inch tire.

I guess those big fat Chargers need 14" brakes - wow. Can't imagine my 2400 and 2800 lb cars will need anything more than 11.75" or 13" setups.

Thanks for the eye candy, though! Keep on pushin'...

Lou
