The aluminum block takes special knowledge, care, and parts (head gasket, rear main seal set, main caps...) to assemble correctly. These parts are not generally available any more, but they can be found with effort and persistence. The aluminum engine is much more subject to corrosion damage than the iron engine, and is not well suited to high compression or other high-zoot buildups. They can be made to run well in stock or roughly-stockish form.

I am putting together a "healthy" aluminum engine. I have all the pieces, but they are currently up in WI/MN and I'm in VA. I plan to make about 220 HP. We'll see how this works out. For anything wild, go iron block.

If we could get a real MLS head gasket made by Cometic or someone else, this would likely alleviate problems with cylinder sealing issues and of course gasket availability.

Best,

Lou

I spoke to Cometic, also, at the PRI show, and the impression I got was, it is not likely. The best thing to do, is anyone that would like a gasket, contact them. If they feel there is a market, it might happen.

Thanks, Charlie. I will do that when I have a spare moment ( :? ). My guess is we could sell 30-50 of these pretty quickly.
