Just talked with a buddy of mine in the area. He said the same thing , hoping to race tomorrow.
Said there was 40 show cars & 120 race cars, not one run down the track today.
Hope those guys get to race after traveling so far.

Saturday was a wash but Sunday was perfect!
20 slant six cars - but only 16 made the first round.

R. Hargis beat R. Parker in the final and C. Myers won the fast four.

More to come so stay tuned.

DD, I wil get the photos to you tonight.

Myers ran a 10.24 that was the best time I saw him have. We ran a 10.42 but something went south in the motor. Will Burns was plagued with transmission problems and packed it in after the first round of practice.

Fast four consisted of Myers, Hamby, Rose, Harrison. Hamby ran Myers in the final.

Giant Killer Seymour took out Myers in the first round of the bracket race. Lester was overheard asking where the nearest airport was because he was not riding home with him!!

Biggest shocker was Ron Hamby had a starting line malfunction in the first round and when he stalled up it pushed through the beams redlighting and giving Hargis the automatic win. Tightens up the points race since Hargis went on to win.

Couple of new faces showed up and I think everyone had a good time. The track kept telling me how pleased they were with the turnout and hoped we came back next year. They really plugged the class over the PA each time we came to the line. This event could tunrout to be one of the biggest events in the SE if they keep improving each year.

I had a blast at the event.

Sad to say that I didn't make eliminations due to a faulty oil pressure gauge that made me too nervous. I did make it home fine with no motor noises, but have yet to confirm that it's only the gauge. Really wanted to tune the EFI more, but oh well.

If I win a Slant eliminations round this year, I'll be happy.

Great bunch of folks at the event, especially the Slanters, but pretty much everybody else I talked to was very cool as well.

Awesome facilities too!!

Lou

Good to know you made it home OK Lou,
We kept an eye out for you all the way to I-40 and figured everything was OK if you made it that far.

Hey Tom,
Thanks for coordinating such a great event. I actually benefitted from the rain on Saturday because several people wandered over to where I was thrashing on the Duster. I got to meet some really great folks I had been reading about in SSRN for several years. Gary Bruner gave me a push rod to replace a badly bent one and Dale Rose showed me how to adjust the valves (much easier than I was led to believe).
The Duster actually made it down the track three times under it's own power to the tune of high-mid 20s. It's amazing what a tune-up, carb rebuild and valve adjustment can do for a tired 225 that had been sitting in a field for who knows how long. I actually broke out because the car picked up from 20.85 to well under 20.60. I lifted against Oscar Derrick in the first round of eliminations and still broke out with a 20.60 on a 20.80 dial in. I thought something must have gone wrong with Oscar since he was so far back.
Now it's time to work out some bugs and get the kids in the youth group out to a local track for some basics in drag racing. I'll see you all at clay City!
Rob

Good to hear that you were able to get your Duster together and out to Bristol. It goes to show you that if you put your mind to something, it get's done! :o

Now that the car has been down the track, the "sickness" really gets bad. :P

Will,
Are you breaking parts again?!? :x

We got some Bristol photos from Tom and up-loaded them into the directory listed below.
I hope to pull a gallery or web page together in the next few days but you can look at the shots if you don't want to wait.

Hey Will,
No problem on the push. It was a pleasure to push such a nice car! I had been wanting to see your car up close for quite a while, but I didn't think you'd be up to socializing with it breaking like that. Maybe next event. Next time you talk to Stan Aiton, tell him hello for me and convince him to get either his Notchback or his Duster out racing again :D
Hey Doc,
I'm just about to send you some photos that the wonderful ladies of Slant 6 Racing were nice enough to take for me. They were so awesome! They all offered to keep an eye on Chase for me when I was running. I'm trying to talk Angie into coming out to an event. Maybe I should have a couple of the wives shoot her an email or something. Our problem is trying to keep track of and entertain four kids (especially the younger two (2&4)) at a busy event like that. Maybe she'll come out for Calhoun in September since it's so close.

Rob
