Hi all, I'm about to sell someone a 225 out of my '74 duster. The car has an automatic trans. He wants to put the engine in his '76 truck, which currently has a worn out 225 and 3 speed manual transmission. I'm wondering whether the crankshaft in the '74 motor will be set up for a pilot bearing. If not, what is required to get around this? He does not want to swap an automatic into his truck, so one way or another, the crank in the '74 motor needs to be made to work with his clutch and trans setup.

Like even the V-8's, some cranks came finished for the proper pilot, some came with the hole, but not finished (special bushing or needle bearing adapter needed for that application). some I hear came with no hole at all (I've never seen it..but there is always an exception).

Good luck on the trade, it's a pull, check and see...

Most all SL6 engines have the pilot bushing hole, it was the real early ones that did not get drilled when an auto trans was behind them. (1960 & some 61s)

There are two pilot bushing sizes so you sould be Ok even if the hole is not reamed to finished size. (just use the smaller pilot bushing)
