OK, I Have an A230 3 speed tranny (1970?) & I want to replace my existing 1965 3-speed non syncro. I scored a drive line from a 1974 Duster that was mated to a 904 auto. Since the drive line has a slip yoke, can I use this drive line with the A230 trans? I know the side levers on the trans & the linkage rods need to be lengthened, has anyone one this site done the conversion & have any pictures of the lengthened levers & linkages?

The driveline should work if the wheelbases of the vehicles are similar...A-230 and the A-904 should have the same slip yoke (I'd worry more about the post -1975 versions...)

The next question is the shift rods:
1) Is this a column shift car?
2) Was the donor car a floor shift vehicle?

Thanks for the response Duster Idiot. Sorry I wasn't more specific. The car that I am working on is a column shift. The donor A230 was also a column shift. I found a link on this site that mentioned that this swap could be done but the shift levers on the trans & the linkage rods would both have to be lengthened. I was hoping that someone had already done the swap so I could learn from their experience.

I have done this swap so it does work.
You will also need a 66 A-Body speedo cable assembly.
The way I did the linkage was to mount the 230 trans into the car and simply hold the linkage rods up to the case for reference.
If I recall... I had to use the "flat" levers that came with the 230 trans and the forward shift rod was 'bent & adjusted' so it fit the lever
The rear rod was just to short and had to have a section of material welded into it.
One thing we noticed was the shorter 230 levers cut-down on the amount of "throw" up at the column shift lever.

Alright, not only did I get a reply...I got one from the Doc! Thanks, I kind of figured I would need to install it & just see what it took to make the rods fit. I'm thinking of getting an 8-3/4 from the same vintage A body duster (1974) To your knowledge is there a width difference or fitment issue? Thanks again for your help,

66 thru 1972 A-Body 8 3/4 (5 on 4 "small" lug pattern) will install with all related factory parts and a 2 inch (appx) shorter driveshaft.
If the car has 13 inch wheels, you need to make sure you have the correct rims to clear the larger 10" drums.

This is a nice swap but be warned... A-Body 8 3/4 rears are not easy to find or cheap these days.
