Well I searched around as much as I could under the car, but I couldn't find anything that looked to be causing the grinding, so I'm beginning to think that it's either coming from inside the tranny or from the axle. I'm going to see about having the axle rebuilt (or doing it myself) because it's likely due for some work anyway, but something that sprung into my head was what if the grinding (which happens at 35+ MPH and only at partial throttle) might have something to do with the kickdown linkage? Any chance that might have something to do with it?

If by chance the tranny does need a rebuild, would a rebuild be a good idea, or would buying a brand new tranny be a better way to go? And what of perhaps something with an OD? Just trying to investigate my options as much as I can, now that her dad and I are starting to tear into the car.
