I am wondering if anyone can give me some information about replacing the motor mount on the left side of the motor next to the distributor without removing the engine. I have a 73 Dart Swinger with super six added prior to me buying it, auto. I was able to remove the mount that is located under the manifolds without any problems to speak of. Any advice?
Also I need to get some info on the carb. All the info I can get from the carb is that it is a Holley and the numbers R8641 0344. I realize this is a sub model of this carb (i.e. Holley 1920-R6594A).
I currently have the head taken off. Before looking at the combustion chamber side, I pulled off all of the rockers without taking notice of the order. I flip the head over and discovered that there is a cracked intake valve, before that I dumped the rockers in degreaser for cleaning, I took a couble of the rockers out and discovered that on two of them the adjusting nut had been turned all the way up to the point where the intake and exhaust for cylinder 3 wouldn't open at all or very little. Judging by the "cleanness" of the piston head in c-3 it appears that it hasn't been operational for several thousand miles (when compared to the other 5). I purchased the car in March for the tidy sum of $450, so I wasn't totally surprised at this.
Before I tore down the manifold, carb and head, one thing I noticed is that when the engine is cold right after starting, I'll drive the car to the end of the street and stop it seems to idle fine. but after a jaunt on the interstate when I stop it idles very rough, oil light comes on, sometimes at a long stoplight, I'll put it into neutral but the rpms go up to 2.5 to 3k (what sounds like). Is this the result of a "hack" super six install? or does the carb need adjusting? It does idle over 750rpms when it starts, maybe about 1000rpms.
How much would a super six exhaust manifold go for at a junk yard?
Also what are the performance specs for the super six? Or where is good source of info on it? I've read some conflicting info on it, the books I have list the 225 1bbl as having 105hp, but an online source says the 225 super six is rated at 110hp?
Any info will be of great help to me.
Thank you in advance

The super six 225 slant is rated at 110 hp (net)....depending on smog tuning, year, and a few other 'things' your slant six could be rated at anywhere from 120 hp to 90hp before they pulled the plug on the run...
(my 76 was rated at 100...).

I've replaced that mount before (spool type for '73 right?), but it's been a while. I think I put a jack and a block of wood under the oil pan, loosened both mounts, jacked it up as far as possible, pulled and replaced motor mount, then dropped it back into place...it took a bit of 'finesse'...next time i do it, I may just use my engine hoist, and loosen up the tranny mounts to get more elevation and tilt...

Are you driving it on 5 cylinders, or intending to replace head and see if #3 will come alive?

Rework the head and get it running again.
Be sure to check all the rocker arm oil passages, they clog-up and are real hard to get clean.

Once the engine is running it will be easy to trouble shoot the carb, my guess is that there is a vacuum leak in the system causing the idle problems.

Well, I intend on getting #3 working, just need to replace the valves. I've only driven it about 100miles before I tore the head off, and would have never suspected that it was running on 5. As a matter of fact other than the "blat blat blat" of the exhaust leak it ran smooth. I used to have a F.O.R.D. BroncoII with a 3.9 in it, and one of the plugs shat the bed while on a road trip and you could tell right away, performance dropped right off, running the A/C would cost you at least 500rpm.
As far as I can tell, all of the smog controls were removed, probably in the conversion to the super six, no e.g.r. valve hoses, heat control to the air filter. Thankfully the car is exempt from inspections here in CT.
The head seems well intact, I might try to resurface the valve seats. The head is hiding under a 1/8 of an inch of filth from a bad valve cover gasket... liquid gasket anyone?
Yes it is the spool type.
Once the 225 comes back to life, its on to the tranny. Damn thing leaks like a siv.
Almost everyone I talk to about the Dart, asks if it has "that slant six in it?", of course I say yes... everyone replies "those things last forever". My uncle owned a 68 Dart he mentioned the longevity had something to do with the oil filter and how oil went through the filter before anything else in the engine.
Thanks for the info!
