We have discussed oil filters at great length here. If you search you will find lots of info. Generally speaking orange oil filters are about the worst/cheapest filter on the market.

OK. sometimes I post b4 think. I did not use the PHA8 but used as a ref. I use the 85515 carquest or should say bought one.If I remember the 440 takes the same filter , and posted on BBD that question there and they state'd the gold/black hi end one. thanks for the post.

85515 could well be made by WIX, and crosses to WIX 51515. That fits most Mopar engines and will work on a \6. It does not contain the internal standpipe though. Does anyone have the WIX number for that one?

1806 is the napa gold number, 51806 is the wix number. Same filter re-badged.

Check moparts - there was a thread there linking you to a dealer that gave discounts which would likely make it cheaper then anything you can get locally. Free shipping too if you ordered more then $50. Also rockauto has wix.

However, you want to run the WIX 1806/NAPA 51806 , it has the internal standpipe for quicker oil pressure on those cold mornings........

Hi USAJon, although the oil filters for all your engines will fit and do their job filtering, on the slantsix you should try to use a filter with internal standpipe. The earlier engines had a fixed standpipe that was fitted to the center hole in the oil filter mounting flange, and the filter was lovered down over the standpipe. Later engines using a modern spin-on filter, do not have that standpipe. The dirty oil enters the oil filter through the small holes, and the cleaned oil then leaves the oil filter via the central hole. If you turn an ordinary oil filter upside down when it is filled with oil, the oil comes out through the central hole. Today all filters are fitted with drain-back valves that is supposed to prevent the dirty oil from escaping the canister through the small holes, very clever when the oil filter is mounted upside-down like it is on the slantsix. The problem is that when given some time, the oil will drain back via the central hole in the filter to the oil pan through the all tiny passages that exists because of the clearances between the engine components. The more the engine is worn - the quicker the drain-back. When the filter is equipped with an internal standpipe, that runs through the filter from just inside the threaded part and almost to the domed end, you can turn an oil-filled filter upside-down without spilling much of the oil inside. The drain-back valves prevent oil from coming out of the small holes in the filter, and the standpipe prevents it from coming out in the central hole. That means that your oil filter always contains oil, so when you start up your beloved slantsix engine with an oil filter fitted with a standpipe, you have almost instant oil pressure. No more rattling noices at startup, longer life for your engine! Some examples of good oil filters with an internal standpipe:

If you have trouble finding them in a catalog, many of these filters are made for farm- and construction equipment using a Perkins engine, including Volvo Equipment, Caterpillar and Massey Ferguson. If you want some more exotic examples of oil filters with internal standpipe, how about Ferrari Dino?
