Today I made 7 Runs The First Was as Good as the best one from last week.

Almost every run the car got faster and Was posting a Higher 1/4 Mile trap speed.

Here is the time slip from run #7 (the last one)

Image

I had 2 runs with sub 2 second 60' times - The other good 60' time is virtually identical.

I did add a 1" carb spacer between the carb and Manifold - That seemed to help pick up about 2 tenths.

the cam timing change seemed to help things too overall.

I need to work on my lights As I put up a few red bulbs.

Great work, Greg. I bet cam timing was the major difference. I agree that 12s are a real possibility...

Hi Greg, it has been a real joy to follow the buildup, with all the pictures and comments, but the real thrill is to see that everything works the way you intended!
Awesome work, keep posting timeslips!

parts List for this week:

Header Extensions - For fine tuning the Upper RPM Range - We'll see if It will make a difference.

Also Lightweight Seat.

I have it, just need to fab up some brackets and mount it.

Header extensions can really work. Once, I picked up 0.3-0.4 in the 1/8th one day with a bunch of different length pipes and some clamps.

Did you ever hit 100mph in the traps, or was that 99.89 the best. You should get the triple digit speed next time out!

Congratulations on those nice runs Greg. It looks like it is too lazy off the line. Lou's idea about the header extensions is a good one. If the torque converter stalls high enough you need more low end power to improve the 60' times. Sometimes reworking the accelerator pump to provide more gas right off the line helps. If you can get one you might try a Holley carb. It will all come together, the best thing you are doing is too get out to the strip and make as many runs and try as many things as possible. We all appreciate all the work you have gone to so that we can follow every step of the way. See you in Hagerstown.

To answer a few questions.

The hightest trap speed so far has been 99.91 MPH, no 100's yet. It'll get there soon.

Yes It does seem to be lazy off the line. The only carb work I have done so far was to change the accel pump one shot richer - That took care of the little flat spot. I have not tried any other rod / jet combos yet. More TNT time is required for that.

I'll Keep you posted.

Next TNT is scheduled for sunday the 18th here in Pittsburgh.

See many of you at the Mason Dixon Race in May!

Greg

Greg. Header extension will help bottom end. Start with 20" and lightly paint it with cheap spray paint.(white is good)Make a pass (or two) and look at the extension it should have a "ring" burnt into the paint.Cut the pipe at the burn or about 1" longer and this should give you the proper tune. Is your eddy carb new or used? If new try two sizes larger all the way around and the smallest metering rods you can. Also install heavier metering piston springs. If used and you have no clue as if it was opened up or not only go up one size for a start. This is just a suggestion your results may vary.During a bull s#*t session with the guys from Indy Cylinder Heads I asked about jetting and the response was "If your eyes aren't burning while staging it ain't fat enough ".Again just for reference.

Others have used crayon to mark the extensions.

Others say that marking the extensions is a waste of time. Do you want to rely on cheap spray paint or the ET/MPH clocks?

Did you mean "marking" the extensions? I would mark them, but also use the clocks as the final answer. My 170 stock eliminator motor worked best with about 18 inch extensions, on long tube headers.
