I have looked a lot here about the dampener for my slant which turns out to be a 1978 block with a cast crank. The dampener is shot and I am forced from a $ standpoint to look at a few used dampeners but they are all pre cast crank units. From what I have come to understand these should be OK for an auto trans cast crank vehicle yes? I know it is not great using an old unit but the money needed for a new one is not available right now.
Thanks

Dampener means a device or system that applies water or some other liquid to wet (dampen) some other device or area.

Damper means a device or system that controls unwanted movement, noise, or vibration.

Keep watchin'; they do go across eBay with pretty good frequency.

So the damp water pump was a dampener for the damper...............

The 6 spoke in that auction would be what PPSI is looking for (never seen one drilled for balance like that...). The 1971 needs a 3 spoke damper for the forged crank...they can interchange but the cast crank damper is lighter than the forged crank version by a smidge.

I'm pretty sure any of the forged crank dampers would work, as long as the requisite number of pulleys is present. I bought one off feeBay and I think even with shipping it was under $50, new in the box.
