OK I'm swiching my slant to a parallel 2 barrel, the one barrel set up for whatever reason has no choke thermostat. I went to Mconkey's auto parts in Waverley and told them I need a choke thermostat for a 75 dodge truck /6 with a holley carb. They list two types one with a wire one without, wich one do i need?, I have a holley 2280 parallel to the engine. From what i have gathered i can use a 1 bbl choke thermostat a 2 bbl. Is this true?

thanks for any help

No. THe one barrel choke pulloff coil operates in the correct plane (side to side) but as it heats up it pulls the rod towards the engine block. The Holley 2280 would need to have the rod pushed toward the driver's side fender. Additionally, I highly doubt the geometry and length of the rod would be correct to use a one barrel system on a two barrel carb mounted parallel to the engine. Your best bet is to order one of the electric choke pulloff kits SlantSixDan has recommended HERE

If you are running custom-built parallel 2bbl intake (not perpendicular 2bbl like factory setup), then there is no factory or aftermarket-replacement choke thermostat that will directly drop on and work. You will need to start with a 1bbl choke and make a new pushrod to meet the 2bbl carb's choke lever. Suggest an electric choke kit number 1231.

Thanks for the clarification Reed, but wouldn't I have the same issue of the rod being pulled in the wrong direction?

Thanks Dan I figured I would have to modify the choke thermostat. what about the leaver pulling in the wrong direction? I suppose i could put a leaver in there somewhere.

Oh, Dan is right. I was thinking the aftermarket choke setup bolted to the carb base plate, not the manifold. My mistake apologies. Sounds like it is a manual choke or tinker-time.

It will be more hassle and less satisfactory to try to adapt a factory-type thermostat than to start with the electric choke it as recommended.
