well I have the same problem as Gtdart with the difference that I just want to convert from a tree on the three to a tree on the floor.
My tranny has no provision for the shifter so I guess I will have to make something myself to make it fit so I too need some measurments.
Thanks guys!

Damn! this must be the only forum where you can ask a question as a guest! GREAT! now yes the above post is mine and I think some of you guys know who I am.
forgot to say that I need this info for my A body 1973 Duster.
I read the artikel on the conversion to a four speed and found out that you need this info to give me a right answer.

Most of the aftermarket "universal" 3 speed shifters come with a set of brackets, clamps and whatnots to mount the shifter. These use the tailshaft mounting bolts to hold everything together. Most will require some creative engineering to make them work correctly.

Most of the universal 3 speed conversion kits say that the kit can not be used on a Mopar A-Body because the shifter ends-up right over the speedo cable.
Don't let that worry you, it can be done, I have done it.
You do have to "re-arrange" some of the brackets and keep the shifter up high so the speedo cable does not interfer with the shift rods.

its not an aftermarket part I bought, this shifter comes from a '73 duster
so there are no brackets or anything else included.

Did the shifter have the shift rods included?

The shifter should mount right behind the transmission cross member. The shift rods will go above the transmission cross member. The shifter will mount in the same position as on the A-body 4 speed. Here is a good link for transmission info: http://www.autohobbydigest.com/a-tranny.html
